The Deaf Festival is a celebration of the Deaf community’s language, culture, heritage and achievements. The festival is an excellent opportunity for young deaf people to look up to deaf role models. It has been held bi-annually and showcases deaf people’s skills, businesses, crafts and arts as well as performing arts. There are a variety of stalls displaying a mixture of deaf recreation clubs and groups, organisations for the deaf, individual deaf businesses and service providers. Activities and mini workshops are given at the Deaf Festival such as Auslan classes and children’s activities.
The Deaf Festival committee entirely consists of Deaf people. Volunteers at the Deaf Festival consists of Deaf, deaf, hard of hearing people, CODAs, interpreters, Auslan students and hearing people.
Many deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people will unite to celebrate the creative abilities of deaf adults and children.
The Deaf Festival is an opportunity to break down barriers and challenges people’s perceptions of the various abilities of deaf adults and children. Many deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people will unite to celebrate the creative abilities of deaf adults and children.
This year, we are encouraging all deaf and hard of hearing Queenslanders to submit art work for our 2019 Deaf Festival Art Display. You are encouraged to let your creativity run wild. Artwork can be in the form of a painting, drawing, photograph, collage, charcoal art or computer designed original art.
This year our theme is related to Revitalising our Language - Sign Language Rights for All. All artwork must show your thoughts on your right to sign language. Please make sure you write down your name and if you want to, a little blurb about yourself.
Entry is FREE and all entries must be submitted by 20th September 2019

Deaf Festival will have several workshops for children and adults.
We are seeking Auslan signing people to host workshops. If you are interested in hosting a workshop, please get in touch with us. It could be art workshop, craft workshop for children and/or adults. Organisation and business are welcome to resent workshop about their services and products. The workshops is free and materials will be provided by presenters/organisation. Workshop time slots could vary between 15 and 20 minutes.

There will be entertainment for everyone like stage performances, signing choirs, children face painting, children activities and rides.Entertainers such as buskers, fairies, circus performers, magicians, stilt walkers, balloonists and clowns are welcome to attend this festival. It is ideal that they can use Auslan. If not, there will be interpreters available to assist with communication. Please contact us if you are interested in doing voluntary performance, signing choirs, dances, busking or dress up entertainers at the festival.
